A really cute article with Richard about his upcoming film BASTILLE DAY with star Idris Elba. I love what he says about being out of period costumes and being able to speak normally.

Richard Madden and Idris Elba bonded on set of Bastille Day

Richard Madden is glad he is finally out of her period clothes for his latest role.

Richard Madden hopes his new movie is as good as he and co-star Idris Elba think it is.

The two have teamed up for Bastille Day, a fast-paced action flick about a young con artist and former CIA agent’s anti-terrorist mission in France.

The two British actors became good friends during the production, and hope their bromance will play out well on the big screen.

“On the first few days on set, we were doing a scene in a car and I just started to f**k about, improvising between takes, and then I’m improvising during the takes and we started to have this really great rapport,” Richard smiled when Total Film asked him about working with Idris. “We finished that and thought ‘if the film’s like this, then we could have something realty good on our hands’.”

Richard fans will be seeing the Scotsman in a completely new light when Bastille Day hits cinema screens next month (April16), as the film is set in current times.

Richard shot to fame after playing Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, and quickly landed other period roles, like Prince Charming in Cinderella, soon after he left the show.

Now though the 29-year-old is relishing playing a modern man.

“It’s good to be out of period clothes,” he admitted. “It’s really good not to be on a horse. It’s really great to be just playing a modern part. It’s much harder to improvise with period languages. When it’s modern, we can play and we’re constantly working to try and make it really interesting.”

Describing his character as a street rat and a lone wolf, Richard also explains that Michael is also quick witted and fast.

“I practised a lot because we tried to make it as believable as possible,” Richard said of learning to become a thief.
